Phone numbers and replacement

Your assigned Xaller.ai number is the destination for your business calls. Keep your existing business number and forward the calls you choose to it.

Open Phone while signed in. Copy the assigned number exactly. Activate your receptionist first. You may call the assigned number directly to try it, but that does not test forwarding. Then configure your existing line with the carrier guide. Keep your carrier’s turn-off procedure available. Return to Phone and test your existing business number from a separate phone. Confirm the matching answered call only if it was your test. Test each forwarding condition separately.

Choosing a similar-looking number or area code does not change an existing phone account. Forwarding and number porting are different processes; these guides cover forwarding.

Use the replacement option in Phone, select an available number, and read the confirmation. The product establishes the replacement route before releasing the old assigned number. Replacement is limited to three times in a rolling 30-day period.

After replacing it:

  1. Copy the new assigned number.
  2. Update forwarding with your existing phone provider. The old destination is no longer correct.
  3. Update anywhere you directly shared the old assigned number.
  4. Call both the new number and your existing business number from another phone.
  5. Recheck the call record, notification, and fallback.

Do not treat a released number as recoverable. If replacement fails, check the current number in Phone before changing carrier settings. Contact support with the error; do not repeatedly submit the same replacement.

A fallback or transfer destination must not forward back to the assigned number. Map the complete route: business line → Xaller.ai → destination. If the same line appears again, fix that loop first.
